COURSE OVERVIEW

Assist in the provision of culturally relevant* palliative and end-of-life care* to clients experiencing life threatening illness and to their families and significant others, from diagnosis through death and bereavement, and in accordance with clients’ choices and the plan of care/service plan*.

Part 1: Describe loss and grief as it relates to death and dying.

Part 2: Demonstrate principles and practices of palliative, hospice and end-of-life care.

Part 3: Describe methods to support clients/families during end-of-life stages.

Part 4: Demonstrate client centred and client-directed care through palliative and end-of-life stages.

Part 5: Perform observations, ongoing assessments and documentation.

Part 6: Identify non-pharmaceutical comfort techniques.

Part 7: Observe and report efficacy of employed comfort techniques.

Part 8: Describe types of directives for end-of-life care.

Part 9: Identify signs of imminent death and areas/methods of support following death.
